“This study is the first to provide evidence of a prospective, dose-response relationship between concrete managerial behaviors and objectively assessed heart disease among employees,” said lead researcher Anna Nyberg, from the department of public health sciences at the Karolinska Institute, and Stress Research Institute at Stockholm University.
“Stress-related diseases are a large problem in our society,” Nyberg said. “The workplace is one area in which stress occurs and thus can be reduced.
Recently I have been on the job hunt. I’m not desperate for the first thing that pops up offering a fair salary. I have to have something that my heart is in to. I’ve worked in stressful environments before with poor or incompetent management, so I’m pretty adaptable to most places.
Everyone knows that stress is no good for the heart and the workplace is one of those places that can be a high stress environment. One of my main concerns in an employment opportunity is that unless you are in dire straights and you really need a job then you sometimes have to be picky and make sure you find a job that you want to do. You have to be happy doing what you do. If you’re not happy then the stress level is going to be higher and poor management and incompetent bosses are just going to make things worse.
