Are The New Lifestyles Condom Ads Too Racy?

Posted Apr 01 2009 2:52pm

Most condom advertising in the past has relied on humor to sell the product. Condom companies figured a light touch (no pun intended) would be the best way of handling the sexuality that’s central to using a condom.

With its ad campaign for the new SKYN brand, Lifestyles Condoms is going in a different direction - full-on hot sex. The company has created a commercial that features couples in intimate situations ripping each other’s clothes off and generally going to town on one another. I’m not sure if it gets quite to the level of soft-core porn, but it’s not far off.

Here are more photos from the commercial:

Unfortunately, Lifestyles in its infinite wisdom, decided to not make the video embeddable, so you have to go the the Lifestyles site to view it here: I’m not sure why they would not want the video to be viral, as it’s a commercial for one of their products.

The new racy ad was shot with one of only three SI2K cameras in the world, the same camera used to film Slumdog Millionaire, which won the Oscar for Best Cinematography. The camera lends to the intensity of the spot, allowing for the high definition, closeness of shot and stark contrast in brightness. The spot will run on national TV and online.

So, what do you think? Is America finally ready for in-your-face hot sex to sell condoms, or has Lifestyles gone too far?
