Anemia that is not iron deficient.

Posted by gammagirl

My 66 year old husband was just diagnosed with anemia, that is not iron deficient.  His hemoglobin is 12.7.  He refuses to have a colonoscopy.  Is there anything else that could be done?  Is this type of anemia always tied to blood loss?  Could there be anything about this that is not of great concern?  I am in need of a kind soul, as I am quite distraught at the moment.  Any merit in the home screening colon kits?  Thank you.

The kit is a simple, at-home procedure that checks stool for hidden blood that could be a sign of pre-cancerous polyps.
