Acidic Alkaline Foods: A healthier diet

Posted Dec 18 2009 4:31am

It’s interesting to note that nutrition for your body also impacts the pH value, and hence it is broadly divided into alkaline and acidic foods, as well as a small percentage of them are also neutral in nature (which means that they do not lower or raise the pH level of the body). And when we say nutrition for the body, it also includes beverages that are consumed on a daily basis.

The body requires the pH level to be maintained at a value of 7.35, and in order to make it easier on the body to do so, food and beverages that are alkaline are an ideal form of nutrition.

So, in order to be able to stick to an alkaline diet, one must be able to distinguish the acidic and alkaline foods consumed on a regular basis, after which an 80 % alkaline and 20% acidic balance has to be maintained in order to stay healthy as per the body’s needs.

After about a week of research, various food charts classify common ingredients such as grains, meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy and oils in our daily meals as neutral, acidic or alkaline.

So let’s begin with an exhaustive (in my opinion) list of acidic foods including ingredients as well:

Junk Food – Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Cocoa, Coffee (and beverages similar in composition).
