Pain that comes and goes in waves suggests an organ is blocked, which might occur with gallstones, kidney stones, or intestinal obstruction.

Often, the doctor must perform tests to help choose among several different causes suggested by the person's symptoms and physical examination results. An abdominal CT scan helps identify many, but not all, causes of abdominal and back pain. Blood and urine tests are frequently obtained. An ultrasound is helpful if gynecologic disorders are suspected.

For 5 days now I have had abdominal pain right below my ribs in th emiddle. It comes and goes for the most part. It is constant now with pain that goes into my back that at times get very bad. The pain gets worse when I bend over and walk. I am not sure what this is.
