Hi! My name is Melanie Webber and I am currently a dietetic intern, on my way to becoming a Registered Dietitian. "Healthy living" to me is so much more than eating healthy and exercising. I believe these are huge components to a healthy life, but I also believe having a positive self-image and a purpose in life are just as important- if not more. Unfortunately, our society has placed an illogical burden on all of us, girls and guys alike, to look a certain way and to be a certain size. For many of us, achieving this impossible ideal often becomes our sole purpose in life. My personal belief is that we all need to learn to shift our mindset from "dieting" to "healthy living". This healthy living includes our mental, spiritual, and physical well being. This is my philosophy: If we learn to see our bodies as a God-given gift, and we begin to utilize our bodies to better the world and the lives of others around us, we will naturally have a heightened desire to care for our own bodies, so as to continue this cycle. It's not an easy task. Learning to live in a way that condradicts everything our culture basically screams at us as truth is difficult... but it's possible.
