I don't think methadone is supposed to be used a long term pain reliever. It's usually give to people addicted to heroin and other addictions to ease the pain during withdrawl. However it is also highly addictive, and abuse happens frequently. If you're looking for som pain reliever, you should talk to your doctor if methadone is right for your situation, and if there are any alternatives.
