Sleeping with my eyes open (day 8)

Friday, 02 March 2007 (21.30 p.m.)

I did not sit for two days. Wednesday I worked until late and had a diner, so by the time I got home I was so tired I would have fallen of my meditation bench. Yesterday I was procrastinating in the worst kind of way. Not only when it came to meditating, but also with household chores and studying.

But today I sat for 15 minutes again. A bit short but I was feeling tired and I did not want to strain my back to much as I have been to a physical therapist today. The session felt short too. Before I knew it the sounding scales were chiming again. However, it just may be that it felt shorter because I was nodding off a few times. This problem was worse a couple of weeks ago when I could not keep my eyes open at all during the meditations. It does not really matter at what time of the day I do my meditation when this problem occurs. It can even happen when I have slept in and had a good night rest. So I have not really got a clue why I fall asleep. When this happens I try to keep myself awake by counting “loud” in my head, but that does not always work. I also often start dreaming during meditation, even with my eyes open. The good thing about it is that I realize that I apparently need some rest or that my physical resistance is not well. And that is so great about meditation…you give yourself the opportunity too really listen, see and feel what is going on inside your body and mind. This makes meditation so much more down to earth then people may think. At least it is much more grounded then running around trying to get everything done in time without stopping and ‘smelling the roses’.
Now I only need to tell myself this more often and stop procrastinating…
