Post Valentine's Day spa treatments!

Posted Feb 12 08 2:58pm by Tamar F.

I just received in my inbox a notice from my local Elizabeth Arden salon about special Valentine?s Day treatments. They are pricey! A manicure, with tip, will set you back $50+. I am trying to be a little more frugal these days. I checked out what they are doing and here are some recreations you can do at home! If you go to Amazon.com and look up beauty products you can make at home, I have all those books. ALL of them. Plus, I have been to many of the country?s chic spas and see that they do things that are easy to do at home, but most people don?t bother.

Try a chocolate hand or foot soak! They are doing this at Arden?s for Valentine?s Day. Do you have one of those plastic footbaths? I stole one from my mother in law, but it stopped working. If you use one, have the stronger partner of the two of you haul the water in and out of a cozy area. Add to very warm water a splash of nut oil and a teaspoon of cocoa. Soak for 20 minutes. Empty the foot tub and return the favor. I suggest a footbath, rather than your tub, because sliming up your tub and having to clean it out kills the joy.

Then, in a plastic cup, fill ¾ with sugar, add another splash of nut oil, a splash of milk or cream or soy milk, a teaspoon of cocoa and a few drops of vanilla extract. Mix with a wooden spoon. Use to scrub your hands and feet and your partner?s hands and feet. Rinse with warm water. You paws will be soft and smooth!

Take a chunk of cocoa butter, available in any drugstore. Warm it in your hands and then, give your partner a deep back rub. If they feel greasy afterwards, dust with a little cornstarch.

You can also take a tiny bit of cornstarch, mix with a drop of lavender or rose oil, and dust on your sheets.

How romantic are you!!! This is a very sweet holiday indeed.

I think it is important to be creative and create your own, homemade remedies. After all, $50 is $50 and if you know how to do all this stuff for a lot less, you can certainly give someone an intimate treat.

However, I have to say there is something said for going to a professional trained in the art of foot massage, or shiatzu or deep tissue. But if you want to get creative - this sounds divine.

I think couple treatments are sexy.  But I would rather go to a spa.  Anyone else hear agout Spa Luce?  I gues it's going to be opening in the Renaissance hotel at hollywood and Highland.  I can't find any info except for their website, www.spaluce.com

Maybe this will be the palce where I have my next valentines day visit :)

Partner spa treatments? Really, I can't imagine that guys would really go for this unless there's an, ahem, happy ending involved. I really should get going on pushing a Singles Day. It seems to me that if you are a happy couple you don't need to celebrate further, nor do you need to go to a spa to get sensual. Those who are ALONE are the ones who need the chocolate foot spas and pampering! :-D

Yum. The chocolate hand or foot soak sounds divine. I wonder if I could stop myself from trying to eat it before getting to the soaking? And I do have a footbath so this is right down my alley. With a heel spur that really acts up sometimes, I could benefit from this great smelling treatment. Notice I totally ignored the romantic aspect of doing this for my partner? You totally sidetracked me with the chocolate!

Wonderful Valentine idea and not hard on the bank account!

What a decadant idea.  I've got one of those footbaths but never thought of doing anything this exciting with it.  Even my husband should enjoy this.

You're right, these are great ideas!  I never heard of a chocolate hand soak!  Can you lick your fingers after?  Thanks for the inspiration.  If we would take an hour a week to do stuff like this at home - imagine how happy we'd be!

I must admit... the recipe for the scrub made me salivate! It all sounds fairly edible.  These are great low-key valentine's ideas. Whether done with a family member, friend, or partner, all of this is guilt free. :) ... great company, relaxation, and low-cost.. what more could you ask for? And gathering the ingredients, planning out the ambience of your home, etc. helps get the stimulation and creative juices going too. I've also heard that a mix of sugar and honey/molasses/maple syrup is a great (tasty) exfoliator, for hands, lips, and anywhere else....

The chocolate spa treatments are becoming more popular, especially spas with children clientele.  I know... children at a spa?  But more mothers are brining their children with them to the spa to spend time together and indulge in relaxation.  I'm not sure if I would like the chocolate pedicure, but it's always worth a try...

This sounds sweet....and a little sexy, I must say. And these days, a quiet, entertaining and inexpensive night at home is a really inviting idea. Now, with the help of some ingredients easily found at home or at a nearby grocery store, we've got a recipe for a creative and romantic Valentine's night, thanks to our friend Tamar!

I agree--couples treatments can be extremely expensive at spas! I think a simple way to treat your lady or your man is to give them a special present--a candlelit bathtub with some rose petals, seductive jazz in the background, and a customized massage with the essential oil of their choice. :) Even if you're not a CMT, it's hard to think your honey will resist.
