My cell phone rang early this morning.  It was the day spa where I?m work one day a week.  For the second time this week, another therapist had called off work and the spa coordinator wanted to know if I would cover the shift.  Of course I would.  One of my few team skills is that I don?t mind covering for the other therapists when they need time off.

While driving to work, the thought crossed my mind ?maybe I?ll help someone today?.  During the 15 minute?s drive to the spa, that thought became a prayer.

My first appointment was the answer to my prayer.  The emotional/mental therapy was just as important as the massage therapy.  It was the kind of body-mind therapy session where the client walks out looking like a different person.  After the session, the energy around my client was lighter, glowing.  It?s just what I needed to lift the feelings of discouragement that I too feel.
It was the kind of session that I need to remind me why I do what I do.  Like so many other people, I take my eye off the ball.  I begin thinking about the money rather than thinking ?maybe I?ll help someone today?.

And one more time, this morning confirmed for me that ?everything is in perfect harmony?.  If the other therapist had not called off work; if I had not covered the shift: if the client?s gift certificate was purchased from any other place, all the stars would not have been lined up to put us in the same place at the same time with the same intention - love and healing.

Health is a large word.  It embraces not the body only, but the mind and spirit as well;… and not today?s pain or pleasure alone, but the whole being and outlook of a man.  ~James H. West

I think it's so important for massage therapists to understand that the work they do is about harmonizing a person's body and mind. Thank you for being conscious of this--I've had therapists who too often treat their client's body as something separate from their mind and spirit.
