Welcome to Extended Herxing

Posted Feb 09 2013 11:07pm

7  months of IV treatment have been successfully completed!   This time I was targeting Babeisiosis, one of the lyme coinfections.  Once I started the IV & oral antibiotics, herxing  hit me like an out of control bus with new & old symptoms – nausea, muscle soreness, dizziness, confusions, shooting pains, & more.

The good news is that despite all the herxing, it also means my body is  responding & fighting.  Even though a person can be symptom-free, the Lyme bacteria never leaves your system.  I will likely need long-term treatment once the PICC is removed & there is the possibility of a flare up at any given time.

One of my goals is to walk 1 mile in a lyme group fundraiser.  Last year, I had to be pushed in a wheelchair the entire way.I have made great strides in physical & occupational therapies.  The cognitive skills will take more time to recover.

I would appreciate your good thoughts & prayers.  For the next 3 weeks, I will be taking the medicine that targets the brain stem.  It is also an anti-malarial pill that gives you malaria-like symptoms.
