This is what a TRUE Valentine's Day looks like when you're a mom.The Thursday night before -- spend all night up with the 4 year old as he throws up on you over & over.
The Friday before -- take 4 year old to the pediatrician; it's only a virus; keep him on a light diet & he'll be fine by tomorrow.
30 minutes after we get home from the pediatrician -- 9-month old starts the vomiting gig.
End the day covered head-to-toe in throw up, but the kids seem to be feeling better. Tuck them into bed early, take a shower & day dream about all the fun Valentine plans (baking/decorating cookies, making cards for 4-yr olds preschool, planning a special dinner for the hubby)
The Saturday before -- have to cancel date night with hubby b/c the 9-month old has moved from throw up to diarrhea - don't want to infect the babysitter. Spend a lazy day at home with the family.
The Sunday before -- baby's still having issues so stay home from church while hubby & 4-yr old go to Sunday School. Move from daydreaming phase to actually planning for Valentine's Day.
Sunday night - the whole family seems fine: go to our small group. While there, baby has 2 bouts of diarrhea. By the time we leave he doesn't have on any clothes & I'm a bit smelly.
The Monday before -- both hubby & I wake up feeling awful. Baby throws up one more time, has 2 more runny diapers & seems to be through with it. We, on the other hand, are just beginning. All Valentine's Plans go out the window. Hurriedly scratch 4-year old's name on pre-made Valentine Cards for preschool (no cute pics sent to the grandparents, no handmade cards or cookies, no taking the time to have him sign his name). Do this while horizontal in bed.
Tuesday: Valentine's Day -- Wake up feeling GOOD! Beg hubby for time to shower before heading out the door. Crazily pack for the day (valentine's cards for preschool, lunches for both kids, bags for afternoon at grandma's), rush out the door. Drop off 4 year old 15 minutes late for preschool and run off to the store to buy the supplies that we didn't make the day beforefor the preschool party . 9-month old falls asleep on the way to the store, but stays asleep throughout errands (yay!). Take supplies back to school & stay for party.
After party: rush kids to grandparents for the afternoon -- lunches in hand (one thing I did right) & a scratched out Valentine Card for them. Rush off for a late lunch with the hubby. At this point it's all I've got! Rush back to pick up the kiddos. Walk in door amazed at the chaos in the house. Must start cleaning.
All a show of a mom's love; where everyday is Valentine's Day.
