There are alot of health benefits in using wool. Several years ago our neightbors told us about a thick wool pad they used on their bed and how sleeping on wool had helped the wife's back problem. We decided it would be worth the money to purchase one ourselves with the hope it would help my fibromyalgia pain. It did help, and we still use it today. Then we purchased an organic wool comforter from a place called Shepherd's Dream ~ my "friend" ~Woolie! I noticed pretty quickly that when I was in more pain or having a Lyme/CFS attack, it lessened when I climbed under my woolie. It seemed that wool was bringing relief and some healing to my aching body. We took this idea a step further when my husband was having arthritis pain in his elbows and hands and his hands would fall asleep after he used them for physical labor. We had been given a large pair of wool socks years ago and he dug them up, cut off the ends, and put them over his elbows and arms at night. He also started wearing a pair of wool gloves! Since he uses a sleep apnea machine, adding these garments to his nightly sleepwear did not really make him look any stranger than before :). Regardless, it worked! His hands quit falling asleep, the pain in his elbows went away and the pain and stiffness in his hands subsided with the use of wool. We are now strong believers in the health benefits of wool.
I looked up a bit of information on this and it is partly due to the way wool evens out and maintains the body temperature. It also insulates you naturally. It is cool in summer and warm in the winter. And it lasts forever. We are still using the very first wool blanket we received as a wedding gift from a Canadian friend...40 yrs ago! Wool is another one of those "good things".
