Good Saturday morning to you from chilly Iowa. We woke to a frigid 27 degrees this morning. Okay, maybe not frigid, but cold!!! Guess it is time to let go of the last of the flowers and store the planters, although we should be back up to 50 again by Halloween.
Speaking of Halloween, I expect our neighborhood will be filled with kids again this year. We usually go through 8 bags of fun-size candy bars. Levi does not like all the strangers coming up on our porch, so we barricade him in the kitchen. Joel enjoys going to the door, so is the official candy-passer-outer! We don't dress up, but just wear our every day "costumes" representing gray-haired baby boomers. Ha!
Speaking of Baby Boomers, I read one report that there are 10,000 of us are retiring every day. Gulp! Retirement for Joel followed quickly behind his healing, and actually brought a return to work which he is really enjoying! I expect he will be like other pastors and fill in as a preacher or teacher for as long as he can. Years ago I worked as an interpreter for the deaf with pre-schoolers. Unfortunately Lyme intervened and I retired in my 40's.........I confess, though, I enjoyed being home with the family most of all.
Speaking of the family, they will come for Thanksgiving this year and I am already excited. Hope the weather holds and we are able to hold our annual football game, among other things. We gather so together so little, we treasure every minute.
Joel and I went down to City Hall this week and voted early. No lines, and in and out in a few minutes. What's not to like about that!
I also went to Joanne Fabrics and got material for pillow covers. While looking, I found one just for fall with some of my favorite colors~ rust, green, gold and brown, along with sunflowers! Fun!! I made that one up this week and have included the picture of it here. Nice to be able to sew again.
I watched Katie Curic's Nashville special last night. That was a really well done show I think. Enjoyable. Next week Tim Allen's comedy is back on along with a new Reba sitcom....Malibu Country. Laughter is good medicine. No movies this week....still reading the Guidepost novel. What are you reading?
