Saturday's Scribbles

Posted Feb 11 2012 10:41am
Good Saturday morning to you from a cold winter day here in Iowa.  It seems like we have one or two days a week of "normal" cold February temperatures and then we head back up to the high 30's or low 40's.  We have very little snow left on the ground ~ it won't be long until Spring arrives!  Okay, okay, it is another 5 weeks until the first day of Spring, but a girl can dream can't she?!

Speaking of dreams, as I mentioned before, I went to a Target store for the first time in 8 years this past week.  I am still recovering from that half hour of shopping without a mask.  I told Joel I wanted to go to the cards section and the organic fruits and veggies area.  After 20 minutes I was ready to go.  I found it interesting that I have no desire to go back...even before the reactions.  When Joel asked me how it felt to be in a Target, I said, "Well, I can check this off my bucket list!"  Shopping in a super store is not all I remember it to be.

Speaking of remembering, after my trip to Target I was thinking about a time in the past when our oldest daughter and son and myself ALL had braces at the same time!  We used to go in force to the orthodontist to get our braces checked and tightened....and then as a reward we would head to Target to get some of their bakery's "old fashioned" glazed donuts!  I have not had any sugar since 1985, but I can still taste those donuts.  Mmmmmm good!

Thinking of donuts brought me way back to when I was a young teen and we had a dog named Missy.  She loved my sister's homemade donuts!  When she escaped from the yard, all we would have to do to get her back home is go outside and "rattle" the donut jar lid and she would literally come running!  The adventures of the world outside her gates were not as important as a yummy donut!

My trip to the library made it possible to bring home a few fiction books I have been wanting to read, and I am into the first chapter of Half Broke Horses.   It has not drawn me in like the book "Kisses From Katie", which is about a young girl of 18 who moves to Uganda to volunteer in an orphanage.  She is all of 23 now, has started her own ministry ~ Amazania~ and is also is in the process of adopting 13 girls that are her daughters.  Amazing.   Amazing Amazania!  What are you reading?

Until next time.........
