Saturday's Scribbles: Thanksgiving in Photos and Reflection
Posted Nov 26 2010 7:55pm
The sun has gone down on another family Thanksgiving.
The house is quiet and the silence too loud.
We miss all the activity of our big crowd!
We laughed, we cried, we ate, we played
We celebrated two holidays in just one day.
Joel and I are grateful and so amazed
Our blessings are so many
It has us in a daze
We are asking ourselves with bliss....
How did we get so many great kids,
in-loves
and grandchildren
to share our lives with?
We have so much to be thankful for
Many to love
We give thanks to God above
For giving us so many to adore!
The temperature is 13 degrees this morning~ yikes! We just had the coldest Thanksgiving in 25 years....but that did not stop the family from holding their annual family football game! Most of the guys and a few girls braved the cold temps for a little touch football. Grandma and Papa watched from the window and those who stayed inside prepared lunch. I don't even know who won because that was not as important as the fun they had playing!
Lots of visiting, snuggles, and laughter took place.
The annual Christmas play was a success as usual with script, props, and all the grandchildren involved! There were rounds of applause from the adults to give our approval!
We took our family photo using a tripod, and I think it turned out pretty great considering there were twenty of us. Can you see why Joel and I are soooo blessed? What a beautiful family we have ~ inside and out.
After making the kids stand for 4 photos (yep that is all it took) we ended with one silly one, which the grandkids thought was great!
This last picture is how I felt when our dinner was an hour later than planned on Thanksgiving day. Joel and I had made a few things ahead of time, and then on Thurs. am before the kids arrived we put one turkey in an electric roaster and the other in the oven. The rest of the cooking and cleaning was all done by our family. Thank heavens because my abilities seem to have diminshed a bit. It seems it takes longer for a fresh turkey with more meat on it to cook....and then when you think you are cooking a 15-16lb turkey and it turns out it was an 18lb turkey?? oops! One turkey overcooked and the juices dried up...the other kept us waiting! Live and learn!
On Thursday night we watched the Christmas play by the grandkids and opened presents before they all headed back to the hotel for another round of swimming. The ladies got up early...5am early...and went shopping on Black Friday, before everyone arrived here again by mid-morning. Lunch was baked ham and leftovers and all were on their way back to their homes by around 2pm, heading out east, south, and north from here.
Our two day family gathering has come to a close. At first it was hard for us to adjust to all the noise that 20 people create, and now it is hard to adjust to the silence. We are attempting to rest and go back to our routines. I am sure the smiles on our faces will last a long time!
