Mind-Full Meditation

Posted Aug 09 2010 1:51pm
Meditation~ Some people feel this is done only when you sit still, cross your legs, and remove all thoughts from you mind. This is what Elizabeth Gilbert wrote about in her book, "Eat, Pray, Love. She went to India to study with a guru and spent weeks meditating. By the way, she is very intriguing don't you think? I have friends who also spend time in silence trying to empty their minds and find this very helpful for them. This is not for me. My mind races all the time, and truth be told, I am not completely comfortable with "emptying" my mind. I usually use a phrase to help still my mind....like "All is well, Jesus is here" or...."Come though Holy Spirit, fall afresh on me".

Linda Popov writes in her book, "A Pace of Grace", that we all meditate, because meditation is just what we think about most of the time. She goes on to say, "Worry is a form of meditation that deepens anxiety and fear. The meditation faculty is like a mirror. When you turn it towards material cravings, fears, worries, or preoccupations, it reflects and amplifies them." Yikes! Since I am an avid worrier and find myself with too much idle time, this can have a big negative result. Lately I have been making myself more aware of what I think about...what I meditate on in my mind, and my heart. It has been revealing and very helpful. Mind-full meditating. I like it. Linda Popov says when we focus on positive things like discernment, love, patience, or peace your meditative faculty reflects and attracts these virtues. This makes sense to me.
Filling my mind with all that is good. Mind-full meditating.
