Welcome to the world of herxing…fatigue, insomnia, joint pain, swollen limbs, fevers, tooth & jaw pain. These symptoms remind me that the Lyme fight continues & I am more determined to continue fighting. I have 5 co-infections in addition to the Lyme so I have a buffet of symptoms that range from normal to unusual. My Better Half (MBH) is on their own regimen so we are commiserating together even though we have different symptoms. That would explain why I am sleeping in sweat pants & a sweat shirt while MBH is sleeping in shorts & a t-shirt! It’s like having a swinging door where the herxing symptoms come & go as they please. Sometimes they stay longer than others.
There is also a war going on in my brain. As the antibiotics go deeper into my brain, my cognitive skills change from day to day, sometimes hour by hour. We went to see a movie about a month ago. I have no recollection of seeing that film at all but I was told it was a great movie! My short-term & long-term memory seem to go on a vacation, return for a little while, then go on vacation again. MBH is very patient when I ask the same question 5 times or explaining things multiple times. Yesterday was a good day & I was able to balance a checkbook for the first time in 2 years!
The next step is hyperbaric chamber therapy. It increases the amount of oxygen in your blood, leading to more oxygen in your organs & tissues. These chambers are used for people with medical problems such as chronic illnesses, infections, & wounds. A series of 21 sessions that will cover one month of therapy is $4,000 & it is not covered by insurance. They have not yet determined how many months I will need for this part of my treatment.
This is a link to the Lyme & co-infections chart of symptoms. As you will see, many of the symptoms are overlapping.
