Yesterday I wrote a post about the first day of spring and celebrating my birthday with Joel, our son, daughter-in-law, and our grandkids. I also have the privilege of sharing my birthday with our One-and-Only-Daughter-In-Law! I think the grandkids had a good time singing Happy Birthday not only to grandma but to mom too! It was our daughter-in-law's 35th birthday so we gavc her not only the subscription of her request, but a few small fun gifts...like 35 pencils...35 paper clips....35 mini bags of skittles, 35 Dots, and 35 pieces of gum. Even if the gifts were nothing to rave about, turning 35 is a big deal.
Our son and DIL met at college, had a storybook wedding there at the beautiful campus chapel, found good jobs, and settled down to eventually raise a family of 3 beautiful children. Her family is very important to her, and she would protect them with her life. Our DIL works as an accountant/CPA and is very good at her job...just receiving another good promotion, even in this economy! She is very smart, and is good at setting goals and achieving them. She is involved in her community, her church, and the school the kids attend. She loves to play games and has taught our family a thing or two about having more fun at family gatherings. The result of her generosity is the laptop I am using right now. She works hard, is organized, runs a "tight ship" as my mom would say, and is not afraid to try anything new ~ from knitting to changing a ceiling fan! Joel and I were watching a new show on HGTV the other night called Home Renovations, and on the show were two women who planned to renovate a room in their home, turning it into an art studio. As they were taking sledge hammers to a wall, I turned to Joel and commented, " They remind me of DIL, there is nothing she won't try to do herself either!" ( Now this determination has required a few trips to the emergency room, but that is another story!)
As we all know, it is not easy to come into a family as an in-law. Family dynamics are complicated to say the least, but as I said on our OODIL's birthday card ~ we are thankful that she is a member of our crazy, or should I say special and unique family :)
Happy Birthday OODIL!
