Connie Strasheim is the author of a new book called "The Lyme Disease Survival Guide: Physical, Lifestyle and Emotional Strategies for Healing...With a Dash of Humor to Light the Way."
As soon as I saw Connie's book I was drawn to the beautiful painting on the front cover, which I later found out was a portrait of Connie done by her sister Julie.
Connie sent me the following insights about the painting's deeper meanings and I wanted to share what she wrote with all of you.
"I asked my sister to paint a hiker with Lyme disease trekking up a mountain, with signs indicating that the way to "health" was at the top of the mountain. I felt that the "uphill" direction in which the hiker was headed would convey optimism to viewers, and suggest that there are solutions for healing, if the hiker just presses on, no matter how difficult the journey.
The full moon in the painting is paradoxical, because many Lyme disease sufferers feel at their worst around the full moon. Yet the moon also"lights the way" for the hiker, and corresponds with the latter part of the title of the book, because I use humor (including jokes about the moon), to express the information in my book.
Initially, I had also wanted to put a deer amidst the trees, and some ticks on the path, but we decided against it, mostly for the sake of space and simplicity.
My sister, who is a gifted artist in various mediums, including watercolor and oil on canvas, paints a wide variety of subjects, and is a specialist in still life portraits. For more information on her work, she may be contacted at: juliedeanne14@aol.com .
Special note of thanks to Brian Rosner of BioMed Publishing Group for putting me in touch with Connie Strasheim the author of "The Lyme Disease Survival Guide" so that LAAP could host her sister Julie's beautiful cover art. Visit Bryan's website at Lymebook.com
