Always talk to your doctor about fatigue persisting for 6 months or more, as it could be your body’s way of telling you there’s a problem.
I have chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and I think a lot of people mistake "fatigue" for CFS. Chronic fatigue syndrome is not just fatigue. It is fatigue accompanied by flu-like symptoms, cognitive dysfunction, and other problems. If you are just feeling tired after a long day's work, that's not the same as fatigue caused by a chronic illness. Often people are tired because they aren't exercising or eating properly. So while yes, you should go to a doctor, don't assume you have "chronic fatigue syndrome" just because you are tired. If you have a full-blown illness there are usually other symptoms too.
I have been "tired" for 25 years. I have been irritable, impatient, frustrated. My body never feels "good". I have trouble concentrating, focusing and easily get bored. I struggled with depression and despair. Over the 25 years, I've had dozens of detailed blood tests that never seemed to end. Toxicology tests. I've been poked, prodded and counseled. Nothing was found - I was "normal" and this was devastating to me. So, last week, I was diagnosed with "chronic fatigue". Everything became clear. Although there is no explanation as to the cause or the cure, just having a diagnosis was wonderful. For me, it explained the unexplainable weight gain (I had to control my weight by training like an olympic athlete). The ADD, the depression, the irritability, the impatience, the frustration is all caused by the grinding daily pain and fatigue that never leaves you - not for one moment. My doctor prescribed Adderall and my life changed immediately. I am patient. I can focus on one task with diligence and patience. I don't get angry over nothing. I remember things. My thinking is clearer and the depression is gone. I am experiencing what most people experience: I feel "normal".
