Bleeding Between Period

Posted Feb 24 2009 9:47pm

A couple of weeks back I got so nervous because I noticed that there is a blood stain in my underwear when I was trying to pee. I was really shocked since I just had my period the week before and now I am seeing blood again. I cannot help but be nervous. So I asked my sister if she had experienced that and she told me she didn’t. That really bothers me and turned me again into a worry freak. I decided not to write about it here since at that point I was slightly disturbed. I was already thinking that I might have a protein leak and my kidney has been affected by my lupus already (to which my mind is contradicting also since I am on a high dose pred right now) or I have some ovarian problem (back in 2004 I was diagnosed to having a cyst on my ovary). It’s a blessing that it did not happen again until last Saturday. Oh this really made me freak out that I started searching the net about my situation.

And here is what I have found out.

Vaginal bleeding that occurs between periods or after menopause sometimes may be due to cancer or precancer, and should be evaluated promptly. The risk of cancer increases with age.

I was like WHAT?!? Of course I know I am over acting so I tried to look for futher explanation and this saw this list :

* Cancer of the cervix, uterus, or (very rarely) fallopian tube
* Cervical or endometrial biopsy or other procedures
* Changes in hormone levels
* Injury or disease of the vaginal opening (caused by intercourse, infection, polyp, genital warts, ulcer, or varicose veins)
* IUD use (may cause occasional spotting)
* Ectopic pregnancy
* Miscarriage
* Other pregnancy complications
* Uterine fibroids or polyps
* Vaginal dryness due to lack of estrogen after menopause
* Stress
* Stopping and starting birth control pills or estrogens
* Underactive thyroid (low thyroid function)
* Use of blood thinners (anticoagulants)

The last on the list made me heave a sigh of relief. I think its the coumadin that is the culprit. Well, I hope that it is the culprit and not any disease. My urinalysis result seems to be OK. And then while I was reading the list I started counting and realized that my period is really due and the blood stain is an indication that I am having it that time. I was laughing at myself for my craziness. And I was thankful that I did a urinalysis on the morning before it decided to visit me. hay! sometimes I am a worry freak. Gah! I am thanking the Lord that its nothing serious. I am keeping my fingers crossed but still to be sure I am planning to visit my OB GYNE in the near future.
