5 Things All Positive Thinkers Know!

Posted Dec 21 2011 7:00pm
It took me a lonnnnnng time to become a positive thinker. And since that involves associating with others that are positive, I've been able to pick up on at least 5 basic things that all positive thinkers know although I'm sure there's more!

1. We all have a measure of power to change what we dwell on.
Life is cruel. And added to that, some of us have depression, anxiety and/or other mood/mental disorders that affect us. In spite of all that, and as difficult as it may be, we can all work not to dwell on negative thoughts. Negative thoughts will come up every day. However, having a negative thought and not attempting to think about something else are totally different. It took a long time for me to believe this enough to try it. And after I tried it, it took a long time to get good at it. But it was well worth the effort. Of course, circumstances still affect me, but I've learned to override negative thoughts more quickly, and work on my plan of action rather than just being upset about the situation.

2. Our way of thinking affects our power to properly assess a situation.
We see what happened, we understand every aspect of it, we know it's not good. What will we do about it? What can we do about it? There are various courses of action we can take, depending on the various occurrences that befall us.  However, our assessment of it will depend largely on the way we think, i.e., our general viewpoint. If we're in the habit of thinking positive, after being a little upset like anyone else, we will quickly jump to assessing the various game plans that can help us deal!

3. We have the power to retrain the way we think.

Just as a caterpillar can change into
a beautiful butterfly, a negative thinker can become progressively
more and more positive. This applies in general and it also applies in specifics like a job we don't like, an annoying neighbor, etc, etc. A positive thinker knows he can retrain how he thinks and therefore how he deals with a matter at hand!

4. Negative talk can affect us and needs to be put at arm's length.
No matter how powerful a positive thinker we are, we can be affected by outside information. We have to be careful who or what we allow to have the pleasure of our precious time and attention.

5. We can't rest on our laurels. The ability to be a positive thinker must be consistently maintained.
Being a positive thinker isn't a stationary trait like blue eyes.  It must be maintained. As life goes on, so grows the threat of us losing our ability to think positive.

We must always show appreciation for this gift of being able to thrive despite adversity, maintaining it in ourselves and, of course, sharing it with others!
