Apple Duangpatra, the founder of Suchada Thai Massage, a cozy and commodious private studio, is a godsend--she offers one of the only places in San Francisco that offers the real deal. Traditional Thai massage is a formal healing art that has roots in both Buddhism and the Hindu practice of Ayurveda, and was taught and practiced in temples thousands of years ago. In Suchada's harmonious abode, clients are guaranteed a similar dose of knowledge. Of course, jotting down notes isn't required, and you'll probably be too busy kicking up your feet and imbibing the meditative atmosphere to put on your thinking cap. Take the graciousness of your hostess; the colorful, incense-permeated hallways that lead to the treatment room; and the treatment room itself -- a spacious nook full of hanging drapes, plush cushions, burnished walls, and gorgeous sculpture -- and you're in the midst of your own personal Nirvanaâ?¦for a couple hours, anyway.
