Learn self-defense! Strengthen your body! Reduce stress! Clear your mind! We are part of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), a nonprofit nation-wide organization founded in 1955 by Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima. Our practice is traditional, and is rooted in centuries-old Okinawan martial arts. Each class typically includes instruction in kihon (basic techniques), kata (set series of movements), and kumite(sparring). Through rigorous physical practice of realistic fighting techniques, we strive to learn our strengths and weaknesses and improve upon them, both within the practice itself and in other aspects of our lives. Our membership draws from throughout Stanford and the surrounding area, including students, professors, faculty, alumni, and off-campus professionals and community members. Beginners welcome - please wear clothes that are comfortable to move and workout in (no uniform is required).

This is a great way to train both the mind and body to bring out your best any difficult situation.  Stanford is lucky to have world-class instructors that people have been known to fly across the country to visit.  Don't miss the opportunity!

I won't say names but I'm highly annoyed by the person who teaches the instructional TV show I'm resigned to watch. He is an abomination to me. An anathema. A plague. Phage....
The Confidence Self-Defense Can Lead You To by Nirmala N. Oct 19 07 11:43am I've done a lot of mentoring work with young urban girls, and the thing I always find myself telling them is that it's probably a good idea to take some sort of self-defense class. I think it's good advice for any woman (and really, anybody), especially when she lives in a city and could be in...
