Well, for the price, these no-frills gyms all around the 5 boroughs of New York City are unbeatable. Membership is $75 for 12 months, $10 for senior citizens. You heard it right! I could not believe it either. The gyms are usually clean, offer indoor swimming pools, some have outdoor swimming pools. The one in Chelsea for example has the larges tindoor swimming pool in Manhattan, I think. Chelsea, Asser Levy, and The 54th East facilities are the ones I usually go to. They are all very nice. You have to bring your own towels, etc. Sometimes, the treadmills can be hard to get onto, especially if one or two are under repair. This is a highly subsidized institution, so you have to realize their limits. They have lockers you can use on a daily basis. The showers are usually clean, so are the bathrooms. They all offer free classes as well as some classes that have minimal charges. Some have indoor tracks. They all have weight rooms, cardio rooms, and stretch areas. They also employ personal trainers, like other gyms. They are closed on Sundays. What else? Oh, did I mention that it is $75 for 12 months?
