Hi, my name is Liz. I am a Special Ed. teacher in Texas. I previously taught 5th grade Math for a lot of years and just two years ago was offered a job of working with students who have special needs. My mother was severely bipolar all of my life starting when I was 18 months old.  I was her primary care-giver for much of those years. After her death, almost five years ago, I thought at first that I would never talk about mental illness again in my life. I was so glad to not have to live it everyday. But then I was possessed to write a book about her life and the family viewpoint. Then I started a blog about bipolar disorder, and now I help students and their families with various mental disorders. I wrote the book because I wanted my mother's story to be told. She deserved a better life, but the bipolar disorder had so many negative boundaries a long time ago when she was diagnosed. I also finally realized that I had been given a wonderful education about bipolar disorder by the way we lived with her and all her ups and downs;  I felt like it was my one last responsibility to her to continue, in her name, to share what I learned. I feel that the dialogue on mental illness needs to be opened and shared as much as possible with the general public. I went about forty years not admitting to anyone but my husband exactly how sick my mother actually was. I feel guilty about that and wish I could have done a better job in helping her. Please read my book "Who are the Victims? A Bipolar Quandary" being currently sold on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Help me to Keep the Dialogue Up.
