California on the cusp of a healthy decision

Posted by Kristen D.

I'm happy to learn that California is considering restrictions on the chemical bisphenol A, which can be found in plastic baby bottles. There is apparently some concern that bisphenol A can cause changes in behavior and in the brain, and that it may reduce birth weight and survival in fetuses.

Bisphenol A can also be found in food containers, which has the canned food industry a little concerned. However, the bill has been amended to clarify that only manufacturers of baby food and beverages for young children would have to reduce the amount of the chemical in their packaging.

Here's an article to follow up on the post-

http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/08/15/fda.bisphenol.ap/index.html

As you'll see in the article, the FDA's declaration that trace amounts of bisphenol A is not dangerous is creating some controversy, so i'm still a bit concerned. What do you think?
