MSUD doesn't take a holiday

Posted Nov 24 2011 7:07am
This has been a rough week in our house.  Last Friday night Anna came down with the stomach flu (ok, intestinal virus to be accurate), then it hit Lance during the day on Sunday, and me Sunday night.  It was brutal, I'm still not 100%.  Anna actually bounced back the quickest of the three of us.  But between that and her period starting soon, she's not doing well metabolically.

I had an idea she may have high levels yesterday afternoon.  Often high levels can cause the patient to act as if they are intoxicated.  Anna kept talking way too loud and she was in abnormally high spirits.  What can I say, I live in a college town, I've seen my share of drunk females so I knew something was up.  We did a DNPH test, and it was really cloudy.

Darn it. (actually, stronger language may have been used at the time).

So now Anna is on her sick day diet for Thanksgiving weekend.  No mashed potatoes or green beans, and I've postponed making low protein pumpkin pudding.  Instead of a carefree weekend with family, there will be the nagging worry that high levels brings.  MSUD doesn't care if it's a holiday or not.

I had planned on writing a blog post reflecting everything I have to be thankful for.  Right now, I'm having a hard time seeing past this big cloud, but hopefully I'll be able to see the sunshine later this weekend.
