In my issue of Fitness Magazine, there has been proposed a new act: The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act would let Americans put up to $1000 a year in pre-tax Health Savings Accounts to pay for exercise programs, gym memberships, fitness equipment and sports-league fees for kids and adults.
This is a step in the right direction an...

Fasting: Day two
by

Day two was an interesting day.
I woke up feeling okay- somewhat light headed but alright. As I rode into the city, I began to feel hungry. Through my workout though, I felt light as if my body had healed so much overnight from the lack of digesting and lack of energy through food.
But overall, it was a great workout. I haven't felt that g...

This article I found on the Sugar Association's website is very useful and helpful. It explains all the different kinds of sugars and how they are currently used. I found it helpful because I'm not always sure of the differences between honey, crystalline fructose, high fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin and others. Its a wonderful resource as ...

I did a handstand for the first time last week!! Hooray!! I was so afraid which is silly considering I have taken gymnastics and find it to be the easiest thing to do in the pool. As a child, I would do a handstand at any given moment. Why was I so afraid?
Well, I guess I associated the handstand with what a longtime yogi/yogini can accomplis...

Today I went to yoga. It was relaxing, inspiring and releasing. I think that its the best thing ever.
I was reading in March's Yoga Journal that Dr. Dean Ornish recommends including relaxation such as yoga and meditation in order to lead a heart healthy life. This is remarkable because this is one of the first doctors to utilize this recomme...

-more energy throughout the day
-better sleep patterns have evolved
-I tend to eat healthier when I have worked out
-feeling good...

So I recently read that Joe Montana is the spokesman for the Take Action for Healthy Blood Pressure campaign since he was diagnosed in 2002.
I find this truly ironic since he is an athlete and seems to be in the prime of his life with the health of the best of them, yet all of these couch potatoes are close to him in blood pressure.
So ...

To go along with that fabulous dip/layered spread, I'm going to try making wonderfully baked, homemade, tortilla chips.
Save the frying for something else because these are baked!
Homemade corn chips are a snap to make and, in our opinion, much better than the commercial baked varieties. Simply stack corn or flour tortillas and cut into w...

So its been a while and I have been on sabbatical from yoga.

I find that when I'm really busy or feeling tired, I lose motivation to get myself to the gym. But EVERY time I push myself and go, I feel re-energized afterwards and am glad I did. So, when you're having a rough day and don't feel like putting in the 'effort' to go, I strongly recommend you push yourself, even if it's just for 20 or 30 minute...
