Health knowledge made personal
My personal blog, http://www.cureforkayla.com, is dedicated to my daughter Kayla Vittek who was born with congenital myotonic dystrophy. Myotonic dystrophy, aka: myotonic muscular dystrophy, is the most common form of muscular dystrophy and affects 1:8000 people worldwide. It is a degenerative multisystemic disorder that affects most body systems including the heart, lungs, vision, smooth and major muscles to name a few. My daughter Kayla was born with the severe congenital form of this disease 4 years ago and spent the better part of her first year using a feeding tube and breathing with the assistance of a trach and mechanical ventilator. Kayla has improved beyond medical expectations and is teaching me and her doctors every day. She inspires me to make a difference in the world and today I manage the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, http://www.myotonic.com, where I'm able to help families living with this complex, multisystemic disorder that affects 1:8000 people worldwide.
