I'm a stay-at-home mom to 5 wonderful children (well, they're wonderful most of the time). There ages range from 19 month old (twins) to 9 years old. 4 boys and 1 girl keep me on my toes. I blame my flaky and clumsy ways on my kids, but really I was a space cadet long before I had them. On a typical day, you might find me in the kitchen covered in flour, my hair half hanging out of a ponytail, staring at my cabinets wondering what the heck I was supposed to be doing. Ever go into a room and have no idea why? Yep, that happens to me several times a day. The kids race around in circles on their scooters with the toddlers waddling behind them. Toys litter the floor and the dog does the "gotta pee" dance at the back door waiting for someone to notice him and let him out. Poor guy. My life is not exactly peaceful, but it is never dull, that's for sure. And there is always someone around to give my boo-boo a kiss when I smack my head on the open cabinet door (not a daily occurrence, but it happens way too much for my liking). I've always been interested in fitness, nutrition, and weight loss. For most of my life I was tossed about on the sea of fad diets and all the terrible advice out there on how to be fit. None of it worked and did nothing, but frustrate the day lights out of me. One day I had a light bulb moment. Bodybuilders know how to lose fat and gain muscle, right? So, I went on a forum and read a lot and asked a lot of questions. My new friends guided me through the world of healthy eating and lifting weights. The pounds came off and underneath was a sculpted body I could be proud of. None of this healthy eating and exercise transferred to my family. I continued to feed them what they wanted to eat, which was junk food and fast food. I noticed everyone getting sick more and more. I have a son with ADHD and had read that having a healthy diet can help. I began to do research and came across Sally Fallon's "Nourishing Traditions." My journey into the foray of "real food" began, and kicking and screaming I have dragged my family with me.
