Health knowledge made personal
Birthday: May 30
Having worked in private practice as a psychotherapist/addictions counselor for more than 25 years, I treat adolescents, single parents, couples and families. Also, as a published author of a memoir (named FINALIST in the 2008 Next Generation Indie Book Award), FOUR ROOMS, UPSTAIRS: A Psychotherapist's Journey Into and Beyond Her Mother's Mental Illness,
I've written in detail about growing up in the 1940s and 50s with a mother who suffered from Major Depressive Disorder at a time when illnesses of any kind were kept secret and prime time television wasn't available to educate and/or support any family's need. However, I also allow the reader to see that as an adult I gained tools that were available to help minimize debilitating memories and scars. In the end, I hope that my critical self-discovery and re-invention demonstrate the resiliency of the human spirit.
I earned a B.A. in Literature from Bennington College, M.A. in Human Development/Counseling from the Bank Street College of Education, a Master Certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming from the New York Institute for N.L.P. and further certifications in Eriksonian Hypnosis and Addictions Counseling.
