I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in 1990 after countless efforts with my doctor to test me. She did not want to test me because I was not overweight.  But I already started to gain weight. After testing me we discovered that I was hypothyroid. I started on medication. I still did not lose weight after months of being on the medication.  I found an endo about a hour away from me and together with a doctor from a medical center in New York I was tested for Idiopathic Edema and the test was positive. I started taking water pills also with my throid medication and I started loosing weight also exercising. That doctor got sick and told me to see his associate who was also good. He now retired and I can not find a thyroid doctor who understands that edema can be caused by thyroid disease.
