Dance Yourself to Stardom

Posted by Lela D. Patient Expert

Maybe you won't ever get fifteen minutes of fame for your dance moves, but you can take a cue from the stars competing every week on television. Take your fifteen minutes at home instead! Crank the tunes and move big and fast for fifteen minutes. You'll not only work up a sweat, you'll clear your head too. The best part is you can act like a complete dork because no one can see you! And I'm betting there's no big mirror in your living room like there is at the gym. Go crazy, listen to the silly music from your high school years, pretend you're on Broadway! Do what makes you feel good. There's nothing like the Electric Slide or a really bad Travolta impersonation to put things in perspective!

Nothing like adding a 15 pound weight and delightful screeches of glee to this wonderful workout! Put a kid on your hip and see how much fun you both have.
I like to put on some music when I clean house. You can dance your way through cleaning the carpet, scrubbing the tub or washing windows. It makes the time fly by and keeps the drudgery to a minimum.
Amen to that! I hated cleaning (I mean like, mothballs everywhere) until I got an Ipod. Now, I crank up the music, go bananas for like, 15 minutes, and suddenly my bathroom is scrubbed. The key factor in terms of health and wellness is to be certain not to shower first. Because then I can get sweaty and pretend like it's a real work out! Ah the power of the tune.
Mambo, 1...2....3.... Shake your hips and twist away.... Dance is an ABSOLUTELY fun, invigorating, inexpensive way to burn those calories. Researchers at Mayo Clinic found that 30-60 minutes of continuous dancing can burn as many calories as walking or biking for the same amount of time. In addition, since dancing is a weight bearing activity, it can increase bone strength as well as improve muscle coordination and improve your mood and energy level. A 130 pound person who dances for an hour will burn approximately 266 calories; A 155 pound person will burn about 317 calories; A 190 pound person will burn about 388 calories. Keep on the boogie beat and burn those calories away.
just don't eat cheetos and pork rinds while you're dancing around; it sorta defeats the purpose...just look at britney
I've gotten my kids in on the dancing cleaning thing too, but they insist on choosing their own music, which is Kids Bop a lot of the time. It's really not so bad. You can listen to some pretty decent songs without having to *bleep* anything or skip any songs. You can even enjoy Britney!
haha! :) Love it. I do some pretty ridiculous-looking moves with the music cranked too...... but it feels so good, dangit! You stretch all these different parts of your body which probably wouldn't get enough circulation if just dancing conservatively.
... and if you DO get caught doing that bad travolta impression, a good thigh-slapping laughing session will be an extra ab workout, haha. Double points.
I agree with an earlier poster. I like to blast music to clean; it takes away some of the tedium of it all. Of course, I have my days when I just want to blast music for the fun of it. Getting moving to the beat, as you suggest Lela, is not only good for you but fun too!
