The UpToDate Mobile app for the iPhone has recently been updated. Before you update the app, you first need to delete the older version as there may be issues if you just do a direct update. The email from UpToDate explains:
Today we released version 19.3 of UpToDate®, as well as version 1.2.0 of UpToDate Mobile, the app for use on your iPhone® and iPad®. These changes may cause issues for some mobile app users.
To avoid potential issues, please delete the current UpToDate app from your iOS device, and then download and install the new 1.2.0 version of UpToDate Mobile on the App StoreSM . The new version of the app should then work correctly with 19.3 content.
Please do not upgrade to version 1.2.0 of the app without first deleting the version already on your iPhone or iPad.
NOTE: To delete the UpToDate mobile app currently on your device, gently press the app icon until it shakes and an “X” appears in the upper right part of the screen. Tap “X,” and choose “Delete.”
The UpToDate mobile app was previously mentioned and reviewed here . In this new version, after signing in, it seems to be taking a little while to download some content (better be on Wifi for this) so perhaps there is more offline content now, though I believe you still need Internet access to use this app. The home page has been re-designed and at the bottom there is a new CME section.
Note that while the mobile app is free, it requires a subscription to gain access to it’s contents. At the moment the app is not available worldwide but if you are lucky enough to have access to the US iTunes store, you should be able to download it. Don’t have a US iTunes account? There are ways to get one .
I believe the app could be improved if it allowed some form of preview and free content so that users could evaluate the service before subscribing. A subscription option from within the app itself would be a good thing. The app says an iPad optimized version will be coming soon.
UpToDate is one of the sponsors for this site. If you click on the banner ad on the right you will be able to see subscription options which starts from as little as $195 (for trainees) per year.
