Try It Before You Prescribe It: Lime Green Bruise Cream

Posted Aug 01 2011 12:00am

Bruises are pretty universal. If you know a kid, have a kid, have a little brother or sister, have a niece or a nephew, you know that kids get TONS of bruises. If you are clumsy all on your own, I bet you’ve had a good bruise or two in your day. For myself, I am a terrible ice skater, and have gotten bruises so large from falling that people have looked at me sideways. Well, these people do not necessarily have clotting issues or hemophilia, but just have direct trauma to the skin.

Which is where our bruise cream comes in. For our Botanical Medicine Dispensary Class, we made an infused oil with > Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
> St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
> Comfrey leaf (Symphytum officinalis)
> Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
> Arnica (Arnica Montana)
> Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
> Lavender essential oil

We then allowed the oil to infuse for 2 weeks, where we then combined infused tea (With Arnica and Calendula flowers and leaves) in a blender, with some beeswax, and German Chamomile essential oil, to create this great cream that can be used by many people. Plus, its a great color – Lime Green. Other students in our class made a whole host of great color varities – pink, “velveeta orange”, and light yellow. But by far, my partners and I came up with the craziest color cream yet. And its all from organic, natural, herbs :)
