Happy May 1st everyone! As I woke up this morning, and was drinking my coffee in the extremely rare, but never disappointing, Seattle sunshine, I was thinking what health topic does the month of May promote? Well, with the help of google, and a little curiosity on my part, I found a great website I wanted to share with everyone! The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion created a website to bring more awareness about current medical issues that we are facing today. It separates the year into month, and later into days on what we should be aware of during this month (if not throughout our lives).
For example, May 1st-31st (generally) is an awareness of
- Arthritis
- Better Hearing and Speech
- Employee Health and Fitness
- Healthy vision
- Hepatitis
- Lupus
- Mediterranean Diet
- Melanoma/Skin Cancer
- Mental health
- Celiacs disease
- High blood pressure
- Osteoporosis
- Physical fitness and sports
- Toxic Encephalopathy and Toxic injury
- Older Americans (?)
- Ultraviolet Awareness
Wow. I only listed a few, so there are other ones that you guys should check out!! So I thought to myself, this would be a great segway into topics to write posts about Ill give some pathology, clinical presentation, and natural remedies that would be helpful. However, this is not meant to be, in any way, a replacement to visit your doctor if you have any of these conditions. Please consult your primary care physician for a full workup of your symptoms and treatment plan. Hope you stay tuned for more information about some of these topics, and I hope that it will be a learning experience for you and I both!!
