My father has just been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure. He received two nephrostomy tubes last week. Draining the right kidney nicely; left one not so well. Doc says definite damage to both kidneys. Right now the smell and taste for him are the worst. Nothing tastes good - - not even water. Any suggestions on how to 'combat' the bad taste so he can enjoy food/drink? Jus because one thing tastes good today, it might not tomorrow.
I had that same problem for years and didn't make the connection until after my renal nurse asked me about it. She suggested I carry gum with me preferably speariment cause of the strong ment flavor. But I no longer have that issue since i've started my peritineal dialysis.
