River Stewardship with the Oregon Rafting Team

Posted Sep 10 2013 12:06pm

American Whitewater specifies “river stewardship” as – “To conserve and restore America’s whitewater resources and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely”.

ORT enjoys the heck out of a number of rivers with an emphasis on safety while pushing the envelope so why not lend mother earth a hand!

We LOVE Clean Rivers coordinated this activity. Their logo has a fist coming out of the water with trash. Powerful. Dig it. http://www.welovecleanrivers.org/

Our pod leader gives a comprehensive safety talk to the crew while a prospective paddler sits on the IK ripping open the cute envelope.

I bought a house 1 mile from the take out of this section one year ago. Barton to Carver gets LA freeway busy when it’s above 90 degrees. Parking is obtrusive, law enforcement is busy, yet this is all acceptable if folks don’t trash the river.  Historically, folks would sink their empties in the river to eliminate evidence of over consumption. An ordinance was recently passed that prohibits alcohol in boats and parks of access.  Hopefully that helps.  Hopefully.
