Looking for a unique trip where you can hit the water, enjoy the bay breeze, and be among nature?Visiting Freeport, Maine is a good way to do just that. LL Bean, whose main site is in Freeport, has an Outdoor Discover School that offers many great programs, whether your interested in kayaking in the beautiful Casco Bay for a few hours, a whole day, or several days. I took my first half-day class last year and had a blast. It was the first time I'd been kayaking, so I signed up for the beginner course and I learned alot. There was also a trip offered-check the catalog for current offerings-where you could camp out on a small island in Casco Bay which you reach by kayak. The trip lasted about 2-3 days.
I just wrote a piece on ocean kayaking along the Atlantic coastline.
Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island are really beautiful spots with icebergs, whales and beautiful waters.
Maine sounds excellent, and I remember reading about Casco Bay.
I have decided next summer I will learn kayaking at a local lake and then do a coastal trip.
After that, a 3 to 4 day trip just exploring and being out around the coastline.
Thanks for the inspiration!
