My husband was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease 8 years ago when he was 36 years old (he has the familial type - both his mom and brother have already passed away from the disease). My children were 7 & 9 when he was diagnosed. I felt VERY strongly that not enough was being... Full Bio

Hi karen....I have been reading your blogs on Maria Schaiver facebook page.  Like Kathy K I have been searching for someone who understands the "situation" younger spouse caregiver spouse.   My husband had a severe brain injury in 1988.   A brain injury is similar to dementia only difference is he doesn't get any worse.   My youngest son was 8 years old when my husband had his accident.

Karen,

I am so happy to have found your blogspot.  I have been searching for a connection with someone who knows the challenges involved in caring for a younger spouse with this disease.  My husband is much older than Mike, but at 54 he is so much younger than most everyone I know of with AD.  I read that early onset AD is becoming more common, but I don't actually see it around me, so I sometimes feel rather isolated in dealing with it.

Hi Karen,

I heard your story through Newsday. It seems that early onset Alzheimer's is becoming more common now that ever. I was wondering if you ever have a time off to just spend to yourself or be a part of a support group.
