I guess I haven't been around since my computer crashed and got repaired.  The last blog entry that was posted was way back on Sept 4.   I have at least 15 more posts since then, many that are about John's cancer treatment and his fantastic recovery from his stem cell transplant.  Wonder what's happening?

John went back to work on Monday, Sept 21, one month to the day he entered the hospital for his transplant.  You were right about the antibiotics.  John was on acyclovir for 14 days after he got home and also another one whose name escapes me right now.  He will be on bactrim until day 100 (we're at day 28 now)  The red spot on his neck turned out to be shingles.  It's still there.

Oops!  Sorry hayhay!  I accidently deleted one of your posts.

John is home from the hospital, a mere 12 days after transplant.  His doctor told him he is is one of 10% of people who recover their ANC count this quickly.  He's off his neutropenic diet and once he sees the doc next week, he may be free to return to work!  Maybe it's because his stem cell trasnplant was autologous (he donated his own stem cells).

Joanie,

Also when he comes home.  Dust can be dangerous for him.  Things you think are not big are.  When I got home it took me awhile to leave my bedroom for scared of any bacteria.  They usuallu give you heavy doses of anti-bacterial meds for 6, 8 or year to take.

Joanie,

They do bomb you with Cytoxan.

He may also run a fever after the transplant but that will subside.  I cannot even remember the third day of chemo.  Maybe I was blocking it out but they were giving me allergy medicine for side effects and it helped.  Keep me updated.  I know people that have had it done for cancer and are doing great!!

All my best wishes,

Today was transplant day!  John did pretty well, althugh he had an "episode" and they're watching him closely now.

the chemo and transplant have been postponed due to a small red spot (like a rash) on his neck.  No idea when it will be re-scheduled.  We need to call on Monday.

John's in the hospital for his transplant.  The fun begins tomorrow with BCNU, then ectopiside and cytoxin for 6 days.  Then the stem cell infusion!

It's kinda cool ... doesn't require any extra work, which is nice.
