Grounding Linked To Increase In Melatonin

Posted Apr 21 2012 10:29am

For many of us, a good nights sleep can at times seem impossible and according to studies, melatonin levels in the body may be a contributing factor in our inability to fall asleep. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the pineal gland found in the brain and aids in the regulation of our cycles of sleeping and waking. Each body has its own unique system that manages these cycles and, typically, as the day progresses, these levels rise letting us know to rest.

For many though, the body does not produce enough melatonin and, as we age, it may stop producing this essential sleep hormone all together, causing an inability to sleep. At this point, many people turn to sleep aids, melatonin supplements, or in some cases, Mother Earth. Our bodies are bombarded daily with negatively-charged free electrons and when we allow ourselves to come into direct contact with the earth, through “grounding,” our bodies are capable of neutralizing these harmful effects.  A study examining the benefits grounding has on the body has been linked to a 2% to 16% increase in the level of melatonin being produced by the body naturally.
