Writer's Answer
I'm one of those strange folks who actually spends time reading the dictionary; I'm a word freak. When coming up with the title forAberrations, I scanned the Internet for a word related to photography that would miraculously relate to the underlying themes of the novel. I wasn't sure if such a word existed, but in the end, I found it.

The wordaberrationhas several interesting definitions that are all a perfect fit for the novel. Here's how the word is defined onhttp://www.dictionary.com/:

ab·er·ra·tion

1. the act of departing from the right, normal, or usual course.

2. the act of deviating from the ordinary, usual, or normal type.

3. deviation from truth or moral rectitude.

4. mental irregularity or disorder, esp. of a minor or temporary nature; lapse from a sound mental state.

5. Astronomy: apparent displacement of a heavenly body, owing to the motion of the earth in its orbit.

6. Optics: any disturbance of the rays of a pencil of light such that they can no longer be brought to a sharp focus or form a clear image.

7. Photography: a defect in a camera lens or lens system, due to flaws in design, material, or construction, that can distort the image.

The first three definitions relate particularly well to Angel's story, and to my own. What about yours? Your aberration may have resulted from choices you made, or it may be related to something beyond your control such as an illness, family history, or the choices of another.

In anticipation of theAberrationsbook release next week, I'd like to invite some discussion on this concept by asking you to share your aberration with readers here. But there's a catch! To support the underlying concept and philosophy ofAberrations, we not only want to understand your personal aberration but the positive(s) it brought, or continues to bring, to your life. Also, please keep your stories to less than 250 words each. Yes, feel free to submit as many as you like. I want to read them all!

Something positive can always be found, although at times it's difficult to recognize; it can be tough to seek out when the negatives seem overwhelming. My determination to identify and focus on positive outcomes, no matter how small, has pulled me through time after time. I know it's not always easy. How has your unique aberration changed your life in a positive way, made you the person you are, or ultimately made your life richer in some way? Think it over and let us know. Let's inspire each other.
