The courage to live openly with AIDS

Noreen is a frequent visitor to Nata Clinic.  She tested positive for
HIV four years ago and has been on ARV's for the past 3 years.  She
has four children and her youngest little girl named Valentine is also
HIV positive and taking ARV's.  The PMTCT program was not in place 6
years ago when Noreen was pregnant.  If the program had been
available, Valentine would most likely be negative.  Initially Noreen
had no side effects from her ARV's, but last year she began getting
severe headaches.  Her blood pressure has been elevated and she came
today because of weakness and cramping.  She had been vomiting
yesterday so Dr. Roger feels she may just be dehydrated and believes
that starting an IV and giving glucose will fix her up.  Noreen was at
the clinic with her sister who is extremely supportive.  Noreen gave
permission to be photographed and be a part of our website.  She said
there is no reason to hide and we must face our problems rather than
run from them.  Noreen's courage is to be admired and she stands as an
example for others.  It is 100 degrees today and Noreen was made more
comfortable by one of the fans that had been donated to Nata Clinic
from this website.  Thank you Noreen for sharing your story with us.
We hope you're feeling better soon!!!
