Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission support group

The programe of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV infection (P.M.T.C.T) is spear headed by the Ministry of Health with the aim of reducing the HIV infection from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery and post delivery periods. There had been reduction in the numbers of HIV infected children since the introduction of the programe. HIV/AIDS is a major problem in Botswana, with a large number of pregnant women infected, in a bid to control the infection rate in this group of people Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of Hiv program was established in 2001 in some places in Botswana, then years later the program was rolled out to all the places in Botswana. Pregnant women are testing at the initial registration of pregnancy in Nata Clinic either voluntary or by introduction by the health work. It has shown that all the pregnant women who registered also enroll in the program. According to the program coordinators all pregnant mothers are verry happy to joing the program.
