Reggie convinces a man to test for HIV.JPG

This patient came to the clinic today at lunch time. He wasn’t considered an emergency so had to wait an hour to be seen. It’s hard to accept that he isn’t an emergency but the nurses see this so much that he is considered just a chronic case. If nurses missed lunch for every chronic case they would never eat lunch again. I asked Reggie to see if he had tested for HIV and of course he hasn’t. This man is most likely experiencing wasting syndrome. The patient believes he has malaria. Reggie counselled him and asked him to test for HIV in addition to malaria. The patient agreed. The fact they get to this point is so frustrating. The ironic part is that the man was wearing a World AIDS day T-shirt.
