Safety Tips for Hiking

Posted by Swati S.

Hiking is one of the most fun ways to get fresh air and exercise. However, like all activities, it needs to be done with due precaution and care. Here are a few tips that will help you to keep safe during your hiking trip.

As a rule, it is not a good idea to hike alone. Take a companion. It is safe and more fun.

Make sure the weather is clear on the day you plan to set out for the hike. Check the weather forecast before you leave.

Always inform your family or a friend about where you are going and what time you expect to be back.

Get a good pair of hiking shoes to prevent blisters.

Always carry some snacks and water.

Happy hiking.

It's also crucial that you stay on the trail, pack out what you pack in and research local wildlife in you're not in your local area.

Carry plenty of drinking water and never assume stream water is safe to drink. Always dress in layers and avoid cotton. You can choose numerous fabrics that wick moisture, dry quickly or conserve heat.  You can wear a lightweight shirt that wicks moisture, while carrying a fleece pullover and waterproof jacket in a daypack.
