Mt. Diablo

The best thing about hiking the large peaks of the bay area, other than the enormous sense of accomplishment when you summit, is that you can see them from everywhere. Mt Diablo, in Walnut Creek, is one such hike. On a clear day you can even see to Yosemite from the top. And, you can see Mt. Diablo from all over, so even in the midst of your work week, you can look up and say: "I stood on top of that last weekend". It's a way of carrying the nature and peace with you, through visual reminders.
